This 1:35 scale architectural model of a building was made as part of my study in Three Dimensional Design, Modelmaking and Digital Arts at IADT.
I was asked to use an existing building in Dun Laoghaire main street, Co. Dublin, whilst changing the time period it was set (1950’s) and theme (politician’s constituency office).
I surveyed the building to be able to drawing it in AutoCAD, print out plans in various layers. I used my experience from studying Civil Engineering to achieve a good level of accuracy. I used PVC plastic sheets (Foamalux) for the majority of the construction. As well as using some clear acrylic (Perspex) for the windows and some other details. I then textured different parts of the model to simulate concrete, brick and wood. Then using 1950’s paint pallets I hand painted and airbrushed the colours before adding weathering to the entire model.
